top 5 hits and misses of 2013

I started my blog this year, I’ve still got a lot to learn but that’s been a highlight of my sewing year. I am an avid reader of other sewing blogs and have learnt so much from all the talented sewists and bloggers.

My favorite makes this year include my wedding dress. More details here and here.

I’ve made a few Hawthorns, love the pattern by Colette. This one in cotton drill, so practical for travelling. This photo was taken at lake wakatipu (Queenstown NZ) on our honeymoon.

I also like my watermelon linen Hawthorn, a great christmas frock. What I like most is the buttons. It took ages to find them, but I was very happy with the service from lots of buttons

Simon has been pretty happy with my makes for him, a tropical reef shirt with fabric from the Hawaiian fabric shop

and of course this one with fabric from spoonflower.

There have been many misses. This one I count as a miss, the fit is fine, but the fabric doesn’t quite work:

This one is gorgeous silk fabric, an elisalex bodice and a circle skirt, but I was impatient and didn’t make a muslin, so the bodice is tight and it falls off the shoulders.

As for this………… cut from a nice simple frock but my drafting skills are hugely lacking, may have looked ok on someone young and thin…

This one, needs work, may call it a wearable muslin, to get ready for being mother of the bride!! so many dress opportunities coming up.

All up I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sewing this year. Looking forward to more adventures and challenges in 2014. Happy sewing and happy new year everyone. thanks for reading.
