liberty — just perfect for baby clothes

oooh baby clothes, what better excuse to buy liberty? I love sewing with liberty lawn,  so with a colleague having a baby I thought excellent I’ll buy some Liberty. I bought Simplicity 2375 and two liberty Tana lawns from the autumn winter 2013 collection – Sweet cherries blue and Sweet cherries purple from Addicted to Fabric.

I thought I’d use the Simplicity 2375 pattern as the basis, but I really wanted to try and make items that were reversible, so to suit a girl or a boy and just because reversible clothes are fun. I also thought it would ensure all the inside finishes were lovely, which I always like and think might be especially good for a baby.

This is the little hat:

and here are the pants:

It’s interesting sewing such little things. There’s not much actual sewing but because they’re so small, you need to be quite precise with the cutting and the seam allowance was only 1/4 inch, so not much room for error.

And  I’ve had some labels made! by R. Draper, Adelaide.
