Sewing for blokes, a ship shape shirt in Venice!

Ciao a tutti!

My husband loves all things boats and nautical. He was feeling a bit left out of all my holiday wardrobe sewing, so here’s his ship shirt.

It’s a quilting cotton ‘hearty good wishes’ by janet clare for modafabrics. The shirt pattern is the same as one I made earliersimon at sun patch malua bay based on a favorite shirt, of Simon’s I pulled apart. I added several cms to the body length as with all the shirts I make for Simon. For the inside yoke and neck band Simon chose another fabric in the same range. Quilting cottons are so good for their mix and matchability.

I’ve written before about not finding sewing for blokes as much fun as sewing dresses. Still, I’m getting much better and more efficient at it. There’s also parts that are fun, the fishes at the inside yoke and the sleeve cuffs for instance. Also the anchor buttons, they’re a bit cute.

French and flat-felled seams for a tidy inside finish. Since learning to do them recently, I looove my flat-felled seams these days.

  1. The shirt looks fantastic, and it looks as though you are very much enjoying your holiday! You’ve reminded me that I should do some more shirt sewing for my husband (I have some Liberty stashed for that very purpose).
