Simplicity 1609 re-modelled (take 2 on the firebird)

I must be a bit of a slow learner. It took me writing up #sewingtop5 (thanks Gillian!) to realise that having lots of fabric up top doesn’t do much for me.

Armed with that hard-won knowledge I set about renovating my Simplicity 1609 silk cotton fire-bird frock. I loooved the fabric but something wasn’t quite right. I’m using the word renovate or remodelled because it’s not such an extensive a remake as to call it a refashion.

Step 1: grab scissors,  cut a v-neck.

Step 2: panic.

You might remember this was the dress my brain checked out on. I completely messed up what should have been a neat all in one facing for the neck and armholes. I had no fabric left.

So to finish of this neckline I used satin bias. I decided to hand sew it down, this was a strangely satisfying experience. I think it looks pretty good, I might adopt it as a finish in future.

So Simplicity 1609 with v-neckline added. I think it suits me better, what do you think?

  1. I like the neckline change. Makes it look alot more comfortable. The other neckline brought office to mind. This seems like throw on a dress and sandels and you are good to go.
