CBR frocktails !! Badgley Mischka dress

I made a new dress! For Canberra’s inaugural frocktails!

Simon tells me it is possible to wear a dress more than once, but where’s the fun in that (just kidding). I also wanted to test a pattern for a MOB dress (mother-of-the-bride!!).Barbara Jane made Badgely Mishka dress

This is Vogue 1374 described as a close-fitting, lined, pullover dress has bias neck binding, shoulder yokes, back pleated drape with weighted tab, back extending into fish tail hemline.

I found the drape a little fiddly, but once done, the rest of the dress was easy. Just 2 darts no zips or buttons.wpid-wp-1435474954175.jpeg

The fabric is a poly velvet burn-out from Tessuti with a stretch lining from Addicted to Fabric.

Thanks #cbrsewingcrew organisers, Kirsty, Michelle, Amanda, Siobhan, Myra and Jen, for a fabulous night.

    • thank you. Yes my plan for the mob dress is the same dress but sleeveless, becaue it will be summer by then. I have a lace in mind, pinks and oranges, looks better than it sounds!

  2. In a word, stunning! ‘Course, I’m not one for one word comments, LOL. Your dress is ever so elegant, and the fit is amazing! Beautiful.

I have a pattern I’m about to sew up…it’s very casual, but has an interesting back view….I hope I’m not being impudent, but I’m wondering about suitable undergarments to wear with a low backed dress.

    • Thank you Sue. Arrh the undergarments! The local bras and things shop sold something they called a cheater, a strechy strap with bra hooks and eyes that you attach to your normal bra, wrap it round the front of you and viola a sort of backless bra. It did ride up a bit, so i attached it with a safety pin to the back of the knickers, that solved that problem, sort of created another (as you can imagine) possibly too much information at this point ☺ . With less of a plunging back it might not be an issue or a sturdier dress it could have been attached to the dress. Anyway it did work, no wardrobe malfunctions that I was aware of anyway. It was such a fun night, with lots of bubbles.

    • Thanks so much Anelise. It’s mid winter here and I also wore my finally! finished Ralph Rucci coat, that I was pretty happy with. Luckily though, for a backless dress, once inside, the venue was toasty.
