A nod to the sixties and an outing to Georgie Girl in Papercut’s Sea-Bell dress.
Papercut brought out the Ahoy! collection a few months ago. I quickly purchased this and the Moana dress pattern. I’ll wait for summer now, before trying Moana but the Sea-bell works for winter, so here it is.
The Sea-Bell dress ‘is a fully-lined, fitted sheath dress with bell sleeves, full-body princess seams and centre back invisible zip. 3/4 bell sleeves help create a dramatic silhouette and gentle shaping through the seams allows for greater flexibility when fitting’.
I did an FBA on the princess seams and lengthened the skirt. The fabric is a wool from the Fabric Store, so pairing a New Zealand pattern with and NZ fabric shop. I didn’t plan it that way.
I have a bit of an obsession with bell sleeves at the moment. I really like them. Memories of youth maybe ? ☺
and the lining, also from the Fabric store:
Don’t look too closely at the zip. With the invisible zip foot, these are usually no problem, but I attempted an exposed zip, mangled the whole thing so much it all stretched horribly before I did what I should have done all along, an invisible zip, as the pattern calls for.
Have you tried any of the Ahoy collection? How do you like the bell sleeve?
Oh and I thoroughly enjoyed Georgie Girl. 🎶🎸 Happy sewing all!
